ABConsultancy is a training and consultancy service specialising in support for adults, children, organisations and schools experiencing intellectual and developmental disabilities, complex support needs and behaviours that challenge.
ABConsultancy utilises the model of positive behaviour support (PBS), a values-led framework that aims to improve the quality of life of the person and those around them, in turn, reducing behaviours that may challenge. ABConsultancy is focussed on meeting the unique needs of individuals with autism, learning disability, acquired brain injury, mental health and dementia. We work with people of all ages, across all settings and understand the importance of a person-centred and flexible approach.
Our services are unique in respect of every individuals needs. Our work usually involves a combination of the following: comprehensive assessments, collaborative support planning, specialised training and mentorship, skill development, implementation support and systems-wide PBS awareness and infrastructure.
ABConsultancy can support if someone is expressing behaviours that challenge them. We recognise the why behind the behaviour and will develop support mechanisms to assist with reducing behaviours that cause risk, restriction or exclusion. The focus is always on improving and enhancing quality of life, never on changing the person.
ABConsultancy is based in the North of England and covers a large geographical area, so please don’t hesitate to contact us if you are from further afield.
We offer three different types of support; Individual, Organisational and Training. Each of these are tailored to your specific requirements:
Each person, and the surrounding context, is unique. Therefore, our approach remains flexible and adaptable and may vary in nature from one person to the next. Our approaches usually include assessment, functional assessments, individualised support plans, behavioural skills training, skill building, coaching, mentoring and implementation support. We work in family homes, services, schools, in the community or work place.
PBS must focus on the wider context to have a greater impact at an individual level. Systems change should be seen as a key feature in embedding PBS across your organisation. We can offer guidance on foundational components that create an environment conducive to a personalised, proactive, positive and preventative culture. Furthermore, we can assist with the development of focussed support planning and comprehensive support strategies.
Training is the foundation of good support, though we must emphasise that real change comes from a commitment across the whole workforce to apply the learning. Training we offer includes An Intro to PBS; Understanding and Improving Quality of Life; Full or Half Day PBS; Restraint Reduction; The 10 Key Components of PBS; Autism; and Learning Disability.

My whole career has been led by a passion and want to ensure a great standard of care and good quality of life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Over the last 14 years I have worked across both charity and private sectors, budding from the valuable role of support staff to a Consultant Behaviour Specialist. I wanted to take a path that kept me in contact with the people at the heart of it, the people experiencing things first hand; so, I consciously chose a career in PBS and behavioural support. I knew this was an area where real difference could be made, and I’m forever grateful of every opportunity do so.
I’m proactive and hands on in my approach and recognise the importance of hearing your voices, seeing the whole context and experiencing and understanding as best as I can the difficulties being faced.
I believe in genuine co-production and the importance of realistic, meaningful and maintainable change. I believe in bespoke and individualised working relationships- albeit with one person or with a whole school, service or organisation.
I hold Masters in PBS, a first class Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioural Analysis and Intervention and am a Board Certified Autism Specialist. I have recently completed my UK-Society for Behaviour Analysis/Board Certified Behaviour Analyst certification.
